Unitywater Executive Manager Customer Delivery Rhett Duncan said: “No matter what time of year it is, as an essential services provider, our crews are rostered 24/7 to provide reliable services to our communities across Moreton Bay, Noosa and the Sunshine Coast.”
Mr Duncan said while the utility’s in-person Customer Service desks would close over the Christmas and New Year period, some team members would continue to work around-the-clock.
“Our Control Room operators, who manage the operation of our entire water and wastewater networks, will be keeping everything flowing,” he said.
“They keep an eye on hundreds of pump stations, thousands of kilometres of pipes and our 17 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) across the region.
“Our crews doing the physical work on our infrastructure and customer assets will of course be working too. If you see them in your street, feel free to give them a wave. And, to really help them out, remember to only flush the Three Ps – pee, poo and toilet paper.
“Christmas prawn shells belong in the bin, not down the toilet, and remember to bin your cooking fats and oils rather than putting them down the sink to avoid unpleasant blockages.”
Mr Duncan said Unitywater’s Contact Centre, which takes customer calls and can help with account enquiries, would be open on regular business days and closed on the public holidays.
“As always, if customers have urgent water or wastewater issues we ask them to call us on 1300 086 489 at any time of day or night so we can assist quickly,” he said.
“Non-urgent issues can be reported through our website at www.unitywater.com/faults.”
