Can you turn off your stop tap?

Don't wait until you have an emergency to find your stop tap

Stop taps are often out of sight and probably out of mind. If you have an emergency, you’ll need to find it in a hurry to turn your water off.

Instructions to turn stop taps off and on

Stop tap with LEVER handle

To turn the stop tap OFF, turn the LEVER handle clockwise.  To turn it ON, turn the LEVER handle anticlockwise.

Stop tap with TAP handle

To turn the stop tap OFF, turn the TAP handle clockwise.  To turn it ON, turn the TAP handle anticlockwise.

Still can't turn it off?

If your stop tap is on a Unitywater meter and you are unable to turn it off, please contact us. We will send a crew to help you.

However, if your stop tap is on a sub-meter in a complex, it is private infrastructure and you will need to contact your body corporate or your complex manager.

Keep your meter clear

Over time, your water meter can become hidden by a build-up of soil or by garden plants growing over it. This can really slow you down if you need to turn off your water in a hurry, and it can make the job of the meter reader difficult.

We recommend that you:

take a look at your meter every couple of weeks to make sure it’s clear and your meter is readable.
check your meter reading against your quarterly meter reading card that’s left in your letterbox.
