Water-wise tips

Our climate is unpredictable, so adopt water-saving behaviors all year-round:

In the kitchen

• Don't block it, bin it. Scrape plates clean instead of rinsing.
• Make sure the dishwasher is full each time
• Install water-efficient devices and appliances.

In the bathroom

• Check for water leaks in fittings and fix any leaking taps, toilets and showers immediately.
• Install water-efficient devices where possible.
• If you have installed sensors on urinals, make sure they:

• are rated four stars or better under WELS
• flush no more than 1.5 litres per stall or 600mm width of continuous wall
• use a maximum daily water use of 10 litres per stall or 600mm of continuous wall.

• Check any irrigation equipment regularly for leaks.
• Ensure garden watering occurs only as necessary and gardens are suitably mulched to reduce water loss to evaporation.
• Ensure water is used to wash down outdoor areas only where absolutely necessary. Sweeping or leaf blowing may be sufficient.
• Ensure that the fire-hose reel is used only for fire-fighting and related fire-fighting training and testing of equipment. Penalties apply for inappropriate use.
• Install a rainwater tank.
• Ensure you are using water-efficient devices like sprinklers, taps and toilets.
• Cover pools when not in use.
