For the past twelve months, residents have had a front-row seat to the installation of a 3.6-kilometre pipeline along Bellflower Road, which will deliver safe and reliable water to an expected 21,000 people who will call Harmony home by 2036.
Unitywater Executive Manager Strategic Engagement, Joshua Zugajev, said the relationship built between field crews and the residents of Bellflower Road Retirement Village was a testament to the integral role Unitywater plays in the lives of the community.
“Our crews are out in the community every day, working hard to ensure we continue to deliver safe, reliable water to our customers,” Mr Zugajev said.
“Beyond their technical expertise, they take pride in building positive relationships with the people they meet in the field, whether it's answering questions or sharing friendly conversations.
“Throughout this project, we’ve developed a wonderful relationship with the residents of Bellflower Road Retirement Village, with members of the community coming out to watch our teams at work.
"The residents had many questions about the work being done. To address their curiosity, we organised for one of our experts to visit the community and share insights into our water infrastructure, giving residents a deeper understanding of the project and the importance of delivering safe, reliable water to the region.
“We were able to tell them about the urban water cycle - where their water comes from, how it’s treated, and what we do with it once it leaves their homes through to the Kawana Wastewater Treatment Plant, as well as water efficiency and saving water while still being social with their neighbours!
“We also addressed some questions about how we sequence reinstatement works to maximise efficiency and minimise any further disruption to the streetscape and what else to expect with our project here.”
Unitywater is committed to supporting pensioners in our community by offering a range of benefits, including pensioner discounts on water bills, to ensure that everyone has access to safe, affordable water services. Eligible pensioners can receive a subsidy of up to $120 per year off the cost of water usage and access charges. This is up to $30 every quarter for eligible customers in Moreton Bay, the Sunshine Coast, and Noosa.
