Unitywater staff and Sunshine Coast Lightning players were on the front lines of Clean Up for the Hatchlings at Kawana beach, highlighting a commitment to our environment that Unitywater Executive Manager Strategic Engagement, Joshua Zugajev, says is shared with Sunshine Coast Lightning.
“The Lightning team are excellent role models in the community, and we are proud to have joined forces with them to help us spread awareness about the value of water in our region,” said Zugajev.
“This year, the focus of our partnership is reducing single-use plastics by encouraging the community to choose tap rather than bottled water. What better way to kick off that partnership than removing plastics from our waterways.”
“Across the seven Sunshine Coast Lightning home games in last year’s netball season, Unitywater was able to provide thousands of litres of fresh tap water and reusable water bottles to the community.”
Lightning defender Tara Hinchliffe said the team are always considering ways to live sustainably, including reducing plastics.
“We are excited to be partnering with Unitywater again – it’s a collaboration that goes beyond the court and really makes a positive impact on our community and environment.”
“Our waterways are a special part of what makes our region so beautiful, and we realise how important it is to keep them clean and reducing single-use plastics makes a big difference,” said Hinchliffe.
The collaboration will mark the third edition of the highly anticipated Unitywater Lightning Cup – an all-day netball competition for Primary School-aged children to be held later in the year, on August 23.
Last year’s event included food trucks, engaging activity zones and special guest appearances, with over 700 students across 76 teams participating in the competition.
Unitywater encourages Lightning fans attending home games held at USC Stadium this year to bring their reusable water bottles along and to visit the Water on Tap Van for free water refills.
