Population and service figures

  • Unitywater began operations on 1 July 2010 and currently employs 876 full-time employees.
  • Unitywater currently operates in one of the fastest growing regions of Australia, providing essential water supply and sewerage services to 16.3% of Queensland’s population
  • The population in Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay regions is expected to grow from approximately 750,000 in 2012 to more than 1.04 million by 2031
  • Unitywater services:
    • Approximately 285,000 water supply and sewerage customer accounts servicing a population of approximately 670,000 
    • Approximately 2,800 trade waste customers* (*customers that release non-household waste into the sewerage network)
    • Approximately 3,400 sundry customers* (*Sundry includes metered hydrant standpipes, fixed fill standpipes, laboratory testing charges, and damage to Unitywater infrastructure, property leases, plus miscellaneous charges)
    • 291,000 total customer accounts


Unitywater assets

  • Unitywater operates and maintains more than $2.7 billion of essential service infrastructure, supplying water and sewerage services to residential and business customers spread across 5223 sq km, including:
    • 277,000 water connections 
    • 5542 km of water mains pipes 
    • 108 water reservoirs 
    • 79 water pump stations 
    • 54,103 hydrants 
    • 79 km of recycled water mains pipes 
    • 2 recycled water plants
    • 252,000 sewerage connections 
    • 5352 km of sewer mains pipes 
    • 777 sewage pump stations 
    • 18 sewage treatment plants


Investment figures

  • In 2011/12 Unitywater has: 
    • invested $171.5 million in critical water, sewerage and support infrastructure projects to maintain our service standards 
    • completed major project upgrades valued at $24 million 
    • invested $21.5 million in maintaining and renewing existing water supply and sewerage infrastructure.
  • Unitywater is investing over $600 million in water supply and sewerage infrastructure for our community in 2012/13-2016/17.
    Did You Know
  • Approximately one pool in every 20 has a leak! Even a minor leak can result in a major water loss.  Under pressure a tiny leak can lose more than 3000 litres a day.
